Driving Operational Excellence at National Grid Electrical Distribution Torquay
At HEI Group, we believe that true project success is measured by the strength of our partnerships and the precision of our delivery. Our recent collaboration with Concept on the National Grid (NGED) Torquay project serves as a prime example of this philosophy in action.
By integrating specialist mechanical and electrical solutions into a high-standard office depot fit-out, our team helped transform the facility into an efficient, climate-controlled environment designed to meet modern operational demands.
Project Overview
Client: National Grid (NGED)
Main Contractor Partner: Concept
Total Project Value: £3.7 million
HEI Group Contract Value: £1.2 million
Focus: Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) installation, HVAC systems, and electrical infrastructure.
The NGED Torquay project required a seamless blend of technical expertise and collaborative project management. Working alongside Concept, HEI Group was tasked with ensuring that the mechanical and electrical systems not only met rigorous safety standards but also provided long-term reliability for the client’s day-to-day operations.
As part of the ventilation and air conditioning requirements, HEI Group took full responsibility for the installation of the Heat Recovery Unit (HRU) and Fan Coil Units (FCUs).
Our approach focused on precision and performance:
Efficient Climate Control: The installed systems are performing as intended, providing optimal thermal comfort and energy-efficient ventilation.
Safety & Compliance: Every stage of the installation adhered to strict safety protocols, ensuring the facility met all necessary building compliance requirements.
Workmanship: We maintained a high standard of finish, ensuring that all mechanical components were integrated cleanly and effectively into the existing building infrastructure.
As part of the comprehensive M&E package for the National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) Torquay depot, HEI Group delivered a robust, future-ready electrical installation designed to support continuous, high-demand operations. Our electrical scope focused on safety, compliance, and efficiency:
Power Distribution: Installed reliable electrical distribution systems tailored to the specific operational requirements of the depot.
Lighting & Small Power: Implemented energy-efficient lighting solutions and secure power outlets across the facility workspace.
Testing & Commissioning: Conducted thorough testing of all electrical circuits to ensure strict adherence to current IET wiring regulations and industry best practices.
Integrated Safety Systems: Coordinated electrical feeds to support building services, ensuring seamless integration between the electrical infrastructure and mechanical ventilation units.
We are proud to have earned the trust of our partners. Following the project’s successful handover, Max Limaj, Commercial Manager at Concept, shared his thoughts:

Alfie Way:
"It was a really good experience from start to finish. It was great to be involved in delivering such a high-quality project for a high-profile client, and I’m proud to have played a part in it.
It was a challenging but rewarding job, and it’s always satisfying seeing all the hard work come together in the finished result."
Collaborating with Concept on the National Grid Electricity Distribution Torquay depot project was a central factor in achieving a smooth and successful delivery. Working hand-in-hand with their main contracting team allowed us to align our mechanical and electrical schedules seamlessly with the broader construction program.
Throughout the build, communication remained proactive, transparent, and solution-focused. This strong working relationship ensured that any site challenges were addressed quickly and effectively, allowing both teams to maintain rigorous safety standards, hit key program milestones, and deliver a facility that met the highest standards of quality.
